You gain some, you lose some.
The Liberal party welcomed Quezon city and former Lakas stalwart Sonny Belmonte to their fold yet on the verge of losing Senator Serge Osmena III.
Osmena, still a political force to reckon in Cebu, got incensed when the Liberal Party accepted former senator and Arroyo ally Ralph Recto and his wife, Batangas governor Vilma Santos. Osmena, who thinks that Recto’s politics are at best, traditional, says that he cannot stomach sharing the same stage with Recto whom he blamed for the debacle that is the Value Added Tax or VAT.
Osmena left Chiz Escudero’s Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) and decided to join Noynoy Aquino. It was expected of Osmena to join ranks with the Coryistas. Osmena owe Cory his freedom.
So, the Liberal party is back to square one when it comes to Cebu. It is unclear what party Osmena will join after this.
As of last night, Osmena announced that he is withdrawing from the senatorial slate of the Liberal party and sources say, talks are being undertaken to repair the rift between Recto and Osmena.
