Chinese beliefs say that natural disasters foretell of the end of a dynasty or the death of a ruler. Chairman Mao Tse-tung was gravely ill when the Tangshan earthquake occured. Six weeks after the devastating quake happened which killed 200-250,000 people, Mao died. That 7.8 magnitude quake which only lasted 10 seconds, struck the Hebei region. That July 26, 1976 earthquake precipitated a series of natural and man-made disasters. Because of this Great Earthquake, the entire year was recorded as a “Cursed Year“.

Today, December 21, 2009, marks three years before the purported “end-time” prediction of December 21, 2012, where numerous people say could be the end of the times. Believers in the 2012 end time prediction say the world ends in that date.

Curiously though, it was also today that Philvocs raised the alert level to 4, meaning, Mayon Volcano is expected to erupt anytime soon. Nine years ago, in 2000-2001, Mayon Volcano also exploded, sending residents scampering to near evacuation centers. As of date, more than 100,000 people have been evacuated.

When Mayon exploded in 2000-2001, it preceeded the fall of former president Joseph Estrada. Will this also foremark the end of the Arroyo regime?
