Solar flares and 2012

Scierntists are one in saying that the solar maximum—a period where intense solar activities such as solar flares are most active—would occur in 2012. They also note that the magnetic field of the earth is weakening and they observe that, if and when, the biggest solar flares occur, that would surely penetrate the earth and would probably cause extensive damage to life, as we know it, here.

It is not, however, entirely sure or scientifically accurate, if this “event” will lead to mass extinction. That’s why scientists are racing against time trying to figure out whether this solar event would cause extensive, civilization-wide damage. Anthropologists and geologists are tracing fossil records and doing extensive field work, trying to figure out when in the earth’s anthropological and geological life did this event occurred. For sure, life would find a way to survive a barrage of toxic, and highly lethal radiation. That is entirely sure. What is not entirely clear is this–what kind of civilization will we have after this life-altering event.
