What to expect in 2010? Insights on the Emergence of the New Man

What to expect in the coming new year? Many Filipinos are apprehensive if we are to believe the Consumer Confidence Index of the Bangko Sentral. Despite a SWS survey which paints a picture of a majority of Filipinos optimistic of the coming Metal Tiger year, the Index does not lie. There is still a 46% of  Filipinos who are unwilling to spend for things and there are still many who are equally cautious on the future.

One thing I learned on reading so many classic literature is this–do not worry about the future, the future will worry about itself. Why worry when no one actually knows what will happen seconds or even hours or days from now?

Things will eventually change and expect things to get worst before it gets better. Why? We live in a transitional phase, where the former things are beginning to die and transformed into newer, better, things.

Change comes after a violent struggle between the Old and the New, where the holders of the old ways of life fight those bearers of the New Age. That struggle, in some parts bloody, in others silently wages, is necessary to fuse the New to the Old, or it may be reverberations from the final throes of death by the Old. That specific spot where the Old fuses with the New is commonly violent. It is that stage where Nations either go to the path of destruction OR into the path of modernization.

Advances in science has allowed other peoples of the world to live better. The quality of life has improved in other countries where governments serve as purveyors of change instead of keepers of old ways. To those countries whose systems respond to the times, these reap the gains sought by the people.

Technologies have made man live longer. Scientists already know how to manipulate DNA. Doctors are now more equipped to deal with cancer and other diseases. Astronomers and physicists already know much of the governing laws of the universe and with the use of technologies, able to create and recreate Energy. The ability to create Energy out of Nothingness is a feat considered impossible centuries ago, but is now elementary science to physicists.

For countries still underdeveloped, the speed of modernization will eventually affect it so much that some will undergo violent transformations. And these are but necessary consequences of the struggle between the Old and the New Thinking.

What is certain is that change, will definitely come, sooner, not later.
