Senator Risa Hontiveros was supposed to surprise students of Batangas State University in Malvar, Batangas on Friday, but instead of surprising them, it was the senator who was surprised when students started to leave the campus after learning her presence.
Hontiveros paid an unplanned visit at the University to distribute “Marcos Martial Law: Never Again” book – a controversial piece written by anti-Marcos writer Raissa Robles.
Hontiveros has been distributing copies of the said one-sided book since she took office as Senator last year.
Hontiveros arrived in Malvar campus at around 11:30 AM on Friday, but students started to leave when the president of Student Supreme Government (SSG), started to boycott her presence.
Minutes after her arrival, student leader Michail Malabanan called for an emergency meeting at the schools student affairs office, and decided that the Senator is not welcome.

The senator expected to face at least 600 college students, but only a couple of dozen attended her speech.
The senator also failed to distribute the anti-Marcos books.
Prof. Antonio Cueto, head of student affairs said that even him was not informed that the senator was coming.
“I think it was a wrong timing. We were not informed. We cannot blame the student body”, Cueto said. /Noli Ramos/
