Manny Pacquiao’s movie “Swapakman” bombed at the tills. It was a crushing, humiliating and blasting TKO to the Pinoy boxer-turned-kenkoy hero-turned politico. Is this a sign that the Filipino public have grown extremely tired of the celebrate antics of the world’s pound-for-pound boxer and want nothing of him?
Or, this is a public flogging, so to speak, a punishment against Manny Pacquiao for that celebrated tryst with Krista Ranillo?
Many say, yes, of course. We are a Matriarchal society. We do not tolerate philanderers, much lest habitual offenders. Before Krista, Manny had a liaison with a waitress. His so-called “relationship” with Ara Mina also hugged national headlines.
The thing about this is simply, whether Manny has the right to get involved with a single lady while he’s very much married. In conventional societies such as ours, of course that’s repulsive. We’re not a Muslim society. Muslims, you know, they can marry for at least four times.
And the thing about Pacquiao is, he’s showing his religiosity in public, praying after a victory and kissing a cross before and after his fights, a sign that he’s a sagrado katoliko. Many Catholics resent these pakitang tao antics, trying to show people that he’s religious when he’s doing all these things behind his wife’s back?
Krista Ranillo is vacationing in the States, still hurting from all the hoopla Yet, we all judge Manny Pacquiao for his frailties and never see why people so hate him for that relationship when other public personalities do have illicit affairs and finance their own sets of paramours.
Look at Manny’s friend, Governor Chavit Singson. Everyone knows that he has his own harem there in Ilocos.
How about Tonyboy Cojuangco and Gretchen Barretto? Everyone knows that Tonyboy’s previous marriage is still legal and has not been annulled. Yet, a few people criticized Gretchen. Tonyboy got away scot-free from that. They even have a daughter who they show in public, oblivious of whispers and those hurtful remarks.
I mean, are we being two-faced and peke here?
The First Gentleman was reported to have his own paramour(s)—a flight stewardess and of course, his own secretary. Sino ba Toh? Everyones kabit to anyone and for those who feel that being kabit is not good, ask some people and they’ll agree with you. But, if they have billions like Pacquiao, they’ll probably spend it all for, say, Valerie Concepcion, or Ann Curtis or as sexy as Diana Zubiri?
