Yeah, instead of big pictures of gadgets (which we saw on the 1st edition), we find nipples. Yes, nipples are all over the place. As what we wrote here, these editors will start a “dare-if-you do, lose-if-you-don’t” thing against other men’s mags with their nipple-showing photos. What’s with this nipple issue?

You know what, I commend Playboy Philippines for starting this nipple war. Why? Because other men’s mags such as FHM, Maxim and Manual are starting to metamorphosed into a men’s version of Cosmo. Their pictorials are glamorized Cosmo shots.

I saw the latest FHM Philippine edition just a few days back. I’m extremely proud that FHM has regained its bearings. I mean, FHM is bringing its old glory back, thanks to the threat of competition from the new boy on the block, Playboy Philippines. It looks great. The cover girl looks pretty and sexy. That’s the way to go FHM!

The bad news is–I did’nt buy it. The last issue that I have of FHM was a few months back. The articles seems an enticing read, but sadly, lacks the potent power of a good read. Maybe the editors of FHM should look back and re-assess their retinue of writers. I mean, we, men, don’t just look for pretty ladies. No. We want our magazines to satiate both our thirst for beautiful things and nice-to-have gadgets and our intellect. Hey, we’re not that sex hungry. Sex, as they know, is just a selling tool. Its all marketing.

Maybe the guys over FHM is misinterpreting their market. They probably assume that the fight right now is confined to whoever is more baring, more daring and more nipple-showing. No.

Your audience deserves something better. They want a good read. They want an engaging read. You’re market is not your tambay boy or those guys meandering in a street store.

Your audience, I believe, are professionals. They want nothing more than premium stuff.

That’s why I hate to reiterate it–you guys at Playboy Philippines ought to give us what Hugh gave the Americans–a premium magazine that raises both the testosterone levels and brain cells. Not some stuff that speeds up our disgusts and reduces our brain cells.

I expect the second outing of Playboy Philippines to be more premium, more classy, and more “engaging” so to speak. Magazines are personal things for us men you know. We want mystique. We want exclusivity. We want nothing more than the best.

I’m expecting other men’s mags, such as Maxim, Uno etc. to follow the lead.

I heard one of my friends comment about what I wrote here about Playboy Philippines. He said that Playboy Philippines is just a victim of its own international self-image. Whattaf..ck? What international self-image are you talking about?

When they sold their franchise abroad, they need to be VERY CONSCIOUS on quality. They need to SUSTAIN the imagination of their public. Hugh Hefner, as I read about him, is a suckler for anything banal yet entertaining. He should have not let his daughter run his empire. Why? Because Playboy has lost its luster, its allure compared before.

The problem of Playboy Philippines is the editing, not their ego. The Philippine edition is beneath everything Playboy. I mean, why publish a crap like this and entice us to buy when you can’t do a good job editing it or eliminating those pesky punctuation marks.

Look at the issue–the punctuation marks are here and there and everywhere! Its like a high school smut mag. Oh, sorry, describing it as a high-school smut mag is totally praise-worthy.

Playboy Philippines is a copy of an elementary coloring book, full of women, fancy cars and gadgets. Yes, it is. I compared my daughter’s coloring book with that of Playboy Philippines edition and they look exactly similar. Except, the coloring book has less grammatical and punctuation errors than Playboy’s.

I cursed the day I bought the Philippine edition of the world-famous Playboy.

It’s not cheap. Its 199 pesos. But it’s not worth it.

It’s full of grammatical errors and typos. Its layout is hideous. It’s not even fit to be read.

It’s full of ads right. But, editors of the mag failed to impress us with its featured articles (with the exception of Butch Dalisay’s dig on why men love older women). When you read the articles, you’ll burst into laughter of the despicable kind.

The featured models are beneath Pinoy men’s tastes. They look like emaciated probinsianas. They’re not luscious. They are not fit for eating.

Yes, the editors say they’ll not feature showbiz personalities. They’ll try to find amateurs who’ll be willing to bare for art’s sake. Yeah, right. Playboy was made not for artists. It’s for men, real men who lust, who want to see the premium female form. Period.

Playboy Philippine edition is full of b.s. It’s just hype.

The Playboy I was accustomed to read and admire is the Playboy that both satisfies my intellect and my polluted mind. If Hugh Hefner would read this edition, he’ll throw it in the waste basket. It’s not worth the trip to look for this edition.

Nonetheless, i’ll keep this edition for posterity. Why?

I want to have the first copy of the worst edition of Playboy in its history.
